2011 Tampa Bay Rays

Your 2011 Tampa Bay Rays are the defending AL East Champions and they did it by posting a 96-66 record last year.  This season, changes abound on the team as the team looked to go even further into the playoffs but alas, free agency hit them hard.  Gone are LF Carl Crawford, 1B Carlos Pena, RHP Joaquin Benoit, c Dioner Navarro, RHP Dan Wheeler, OF/1B Brad Hawpe, RHP Chad Qualls, RHP Rafael Soriano, RHP Grant Balfour, and OF Gabe Kapler.   The team traded SS Jason Bartlett to the Padres for three minor league relievers, an infielder and a player to be named later.  The team also completed a trade with the Chicago Cubs sending RHP Matt Garza, OF Fernando Perez and minor leaguer Zach Rosscup for five minor league prospects.

Joining the team are LF Johnny Damon, DH Manny Ramirez RHP Joel Peralta, RHP Adam Russell, LHP Cesar Ramos, OF Sam Fuld, RHP Kyle Farnsworth, 1B Casey Kotchman, and INF Felipe Lopez.

The team is confident in Manny Ramirez and his dedication to the team.  Although he signed a measly contract of $2 million, people shouldn’t think he isn’t going to give it his all.  "Thank God, I've already made my money, so I'm here because I love the game," Ramirez said. "And I love to compete. It doesn't matter how much money you make. If you do love the game, all you want is a chance to prove to people you still could do it.

"For me, it wasn't about the money. I could have gone somewhere else (for more money). I'm close to home. I like the stadium. I like Tampa; the people, they're nice people. So I'm right here."

Be sure to get your tickets and support your Tampa Bay Rays as they attempt to defend their AL East Title.
